Equal Pay Day

We're thrilled to let you know WACL will be hosting an early evening event on Wednesday 8th November to mark Equal Pay Day - the day that women effectively stop earning for the year in comparison with men. This year it falls on Friday 10th November. Whilst the pay gap in our industry is undoubtedly better than many others in the UK, there is still much work to do. As well as shining a light on the need for change, our aim for this session is to inform and inspire women and men in the industry on what they can do both as individuals and within their businesses to eliminate the gap and ensure equal pay for all. As well as WACL members, attendees at the event will include representatives from the other industry women’s groups (such as Bloom, Creative Equals, DAWN etc) we partner with, along with we hope, male influencers and leaders in our industry.

After drinks and networking, we are planning an expert panel who will discuss the key issues around the gender pay gap. We’re hoping to learn from other sectors about what they are doing to try and end the gender pay gap and share any lessons which could be applied to our industry. We’ll be giving best practice tips and advice on how we as individuals and businesses can affect change. There will be plenty of opportunities to ask questions too.

The panel discussion will be chaired by Pippa Glucklich and so far we have the following panellists, with 1 or 2 more to be confirmed:

  • Pavita Cooper, Founder of More Difference
  • Matt Elliott, People Director, Virgin Money

There won’t be a cost for the event, however, we would like to suggest a voluntary donation of £10 per person to go towards the Future Leader’s Award, which as you know has just launched for this year.

As one of our first events since our new WACL purpose was ratified, I very much hope you can join us. Due to capacity at this office numbers will be limited but if there is strong demand then we may see if we can relocate the event to larger premises.
