#MeToo for #UsToo: a WACL Gathering on sexual harassment in the advertising and marketing industry.
The event will be chaired by Tess Alps, Chair, Thinkbox who will be joined by:
- Graham Bednash, Marketing Director, Google
- Ali Hanan, Founder & Chief Executive, Creative Equals
- Xavier Rees, CEO, Havas London
- Lorraine Jennings, Director of Services and Talent, NABS – and previous winner of the WACL Future Leaders Award
The Weinstein case is shedding a light on the sheer scale of sexual harassment in all sorts of industries. The fallout has fired debate about abuse of power and how sexual harassment is still being enabled by others. Although women are the main victims, it’s important to acknowledge that men are sometimes also targeted. The involvement of both men and women is key to making things better in the workplace for everyone.
At this Gathering, we’d like to invite men and women of all levels in the industry to join us to discuss this highly charged subject. How do we create healthy workplace cultures where everyone can enjoy coming to work? How do you encourage the right kind of behaviour and stamp out the bad? We’ll hear about what the legal situation is, what your rights are, how to deal with it and who to talk to if it happens to you or if you see someone else being abused.
We hope that the output of the event will be:
- some practical advice to help individuals speak up without fear
- some immediate and longer-term reforms for our industry to build better workplace environments for everyone.
The evening is taking place at Sea Containers (18 Upper Ground, London, SE1 9PD), Monday 27th November, 6:15pm-8:15 pm
Tickets are £50 each which includes drinks and you can buy them here.
All funds raised from this event will go towards the Future Leaders Award, so I hope you can all please share internally and via social channels, as we’ll need your help in selling tickets. We’re aware that it is quite late in the day to be holding an event, but we wanted to make this happen quickly as it’s such a hot topic in the industry right now.
Huge thanks to Tess for stepping in to chair this event, it’s going to be a good one, so we hope to see some of you or your teams there!
