The EU is planning on setting a quota of 40% of women to be on boards of listed companies by 2020. Whilst the numbers of women on boards may be lower than desired, surely we should rely on our ability to get ourselves in top senior board positions rather than letting it become a legal obligation?

As the 30% club argues in favour of voluntary change to achieve the right balance, we should rely on the strong business case for the benefits of diversity as women bring a different perspective to decision making and foster fresh ideas and learning.
