Claire Sadler’s VP drinks

Last Thursday was a memorable evening at Claire Sadler’s Vice President Drinks, where she shared with WACL members her inspiring career journey and vision for her remaining six months as Vice President before taking over from Karen Stacey as WACLs 102nd President.

Born in Bangkok and moving to the UK at age two, she grew up as the only foreign face in her rural New Forest school. As the first in her family to attend university, she completed a law degree before discovering her true passion in marketing – starting with helping organise and promote club nights!

Her impressive career path has taken her from BT, where she rose to Group Brand Director, to driving small business growth at Direct Line. For the past four years at the British Heart Foundation, she has led transformative work in marketing and fundraising, achieving record-breaking results in funding lifesaving research post-Covid.

Since joining WACL in 2017, Claire has co-chaired the Talent Festival Committee for two years and sat on the VP committee which defined our 5 levers of change in our 50% Playbook. Most recently, she supported our 100-year celebration activities. This included WACL’s first advertising campaign ‘Represent me’ with TV and social advertising, supported by Dove, about the importance of positive representation for girls and young women. .

Claire’s goal for the six months before she takes the Presidency baton from Karen is to build on the work of the accomplished women who have held the position before. Her focus as Vice President isn’t on initiating new projects, but rather on ensuring the continuity and evolution of the work that she and Karen have begun this year, which will then continue into her own presidential term. This includes a focus on future funding to support WACL’s Talent Awards and campaigning work, along with a refresh of WACL’s events and dinners programme for members and Allies of WACL.
