WACL Speaker Dinner - Cressida Dick CBE QPM

November 4 – 6:45 pm , The Savoy

On Monday 4th November we will be joined by a very exciting guest speaker for the first dinner of the year – Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, Cressida Dick.  Huge thanks to Ella for making this possible!

It’s safe to say that I’m a huge admirer of Cressida and her incredible achievements.  She has worked tirelessly to ensure that the outstanding work of the Met’s female police officers – both past and present – is recognised, and in doing so is inspiring women of the future to consider a diverse and rewarding career with the force.

2018 marked the centenary of the first female officers taking to the streets of London – at the time referred to as ‘Women Patrols’ – and today nearly 8,000 women officers occupy a huge range of influential and important roles across the organisation in every area and at every rank.  Cressida’s appointment as Commissioner in 2017 showed that there truly are no limits to being a woman in the Met.

Cressida originally joined the Metropolitan Police Service in 1983 and has served in a multitude of senior roles spanning over three decades. Key appointments include Assistant Commissioner for Specialist Crime in 2009, where she was responsible for tackling all non-terrorist serious crime in London as well as leading a modernisation programme, and in 2011 she was made the Assistant Commissioner for Specialist Operations, responsible for countering terrorism and extremism. In this role, she led the national security operations for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the 2012 Olympic Games.  During her time in the Metropolitan Police, she also led the reinvestigation into the murder of Stephen Lawrence and the police response to the murder of Lee Rigby. Before her current appointment, she briefly acted as the Deputy Commissioner before joining the Foreign and Commonwealth Office as a Director-General in 2015.  She was awarded the Queen’s Police Medal for services to policing in 2010 and a CBE in 2015.

I very much hope that you can join me on 4th November to hear more about her incredible career and experiences.
