WACL NED Talk – If I Could Tell You One (NED) Thing

Whether you are interested in listed, unlisted or not for profit organisations, there is nothing more valuable than hearing some top tips from experienced and successful NEDs to help you develop a strong action plan to land the right NED role for you.

We are extremely fortunate to have many WACL members in the Club who are highly accomplished NEDS with a wide breadth of experience across many different boards.

At this ever-popular ‘If I could tell you one thing..’ session, a panel of our expert fellow WACLers will provide hands-on practical advice on what you need to consider on your journey to a NED appointment, helping you optimise every step to success.

Speaker Biogs

Katrina Lowes

Katrina joined WACL in 1999 when Cilla Snowball was President. She is a marketing leader with more than 30 years’ experience working both as client and consultant with FTSE and Fortune 100 companies across the world. Her experience spans the high-tech, communications, financial services and healthcare industries. An expert marketing practitioner across both B2B and B2C audiences, Katrina is currently Head of the Vodafone Centre for Health with Deloitte, focused on helping the healthcare industry make greater use of digital technology to provide better healthcare to more people.

Before this, she was Senior Vice President, Global Marketing Operations at Unify during the rebranding from Siemens Enterprise Communications and Senior Vice President of the Marketing Services Practice at MarketBridge, a global marketing consultancy based in Washington DC. Prior to MarketBridge, Katrina spent 14 years working for BT, the UK’s leading business and consumer communications provider, where she was responsible for one of the UK’s largest single brand communications budgets.

Katrina is the Vice Chair of Police Care UK, a national charity that supports police officers and their families who have suffered injury or trauma in the line of duty.

 

Radha Davies

Radha Davies is a passionate marketing leader with over 25 years’ experience gained across multiple industries. She started her career at Diageo, working on global brands such as Bailey’s, Smirnoff and Johnnie Walker in domestic and international roles. She has worked in private equity, building the bathroom brand Ideal Standard for Bain Capital and in the public sector, leading the repositioning of the Post Office during a period of transformation, to make it a more customer centric organisation.
More recently Radha has led brand and comms teams in the tech sector for King, launching new games within the Candy Crush Saga franchise, was Brand Development Director for Virgin Group where she lead Virgin Masterbrand development for UK & EMEA businesses including Virgin Media, Virgin Atlantic and was also a member of the board for Virgin Racing.
Currently Radha is Brand Communications and Creative Director for Sainsburys Group across all their brands (Sainsburys, Argos, Habitat and Tu). She is also a Board Trustee for the Creative Mentor Network, a charity focussed on increasing access to the creative industries for young people from lower socio-economic backgrounds. She juggles her working life, with that of being a wife and mum to three gorgeous teenagers and to Maggie the family’s spoilt Labrador.

 

Cilla Snowball

Cilla is a Governor of the Wellcome Trust and sits on the Board of Derwent London PLC. She’s the former CEO and Chair of AMV BBDO where she worked for 26 years. She also chaired the Women’s Business Council from 2016 to 2019 and the GREAT Private Sector Council from 2018 to 2020. She is past President of the Thirty Club and of WACL and The Marketing Group of Great Britain. She was the first woman to chair the Advertising Association. Cilla was made a Dame in the Queen’s Birthday Honours for services to advertising, diversity and equality in 2017. Most importantly, she is Fred, Albert and Rosie’s mum and Finn’s granny.

 

Lindsay Pattison

Lindsay is Chief Client Officer of WPP, responsible for WPP’s focus on client centricity, overseeing 40+ Global Client Leaders, who lead the largest accounts globally. As CCO, Lindsay ensures that WPP’s major clients have access to the combined strengths of WPP to create sustainable business success. The CCO role follows Lindsay’s role as Chief Transformation Officer for GroupM and WPP. She was previously global CEO of Maxus, a WPP media agency. Her experience also includes roles at marketing agencies Young and Rubicam and PHD Media, and marketing role with Sony Ericsson. Lindsay is a passionate advocate for business leaders taking meaningful action to improve gender equality: in 2016 she launched what is now a WPP-wide, global initiative (‘Walk the Talk’) to help senior women overcome the barriers to achieving their potential. Over 2,5000 senior women have now participated and Lindsay now sits on WPPs Global Inclusion Council. Lindsay serves on the board of Waldencast Acquistion Corp. the global beauty and wellness company who are creating, nurturing, and scaling the next generation of conscious, purpose-driven brands. She also sits on the advisory board of Planet First Partners, a fund focused on sustainable products and services in service of a healthier plant, and Meta’s Global Client Council.

 

Daryl Fielding

Daryl’s career includes C-suite marketing and advertising roles and she now has a portfolio of executive and non-executive assignments. She is CEO of The Marketing Academy Foundation, a charity enabling young adults from tough backgrounds to start a career in the marketing industries. She has just joined First Give as Chair and is on the Council Board of the Association of Chartered and Certified Accountants and is a Trustee of The Academy of Ancient Music. She was a Trustee of The British Heart Foundation for six years and Pelican Cancer Foundation for eight. She has just published The Brand Book, an insider’s guide to brands and how to build them, and is a platform speaker on marketing and on diversity. Prior to this, she had Managing Director roles at Vodafone UK and at Mondelez Europe, responsible for Brand and Marketing, and was Commercial Director of Independent Newspapers. Her advertising agency career spans Ogilvy, Lowe Lintas and DDB where highlights were leading Dove’s paradigm-shifting, global “Campaign for Real Beauty” and New Labour’s advertising in the 1997 Election. She has lived in the UK and in Switzerland, and now splits her time between Dorset, London and Spain.

 

Jennelle Tilling

An experienced and award-winning marketing executive with a career spanning over 25 years, Jennelle Tilling most recently served as the Global Chief Marketing Officer for KFC. She was responsible for the company’s brand marketing, communications, innovation, digital presence, and brand reputation in over 125 countries around the world. Jennelle has a long track record of driving results within YUM!, having served in leadership roles for KFC, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell. Prior to her global role, Jennelle served as Vice President of Marketing for KFC. Her work earned her an IPA Advertising Effectiveness Gold Award in 2008 and a Silver Award in 2010, a British Arrow for Digital Creativity in 2013, and the 2007 Marketing Society Award for brand revitalization. In 2016, she was awarded one of Business Insiders most innovative global CMOs An active contributor to the marketing industry in the UK, Jennelle is a Fellow of The Marketing Society, a member of MGGB, and was proudly WACL President in 2013/14. Jennelle is the Founder and Chief Brand Strategist at Marketing with Insight a London based brand consultancy specializing in Retail, Food and Beverage strategy. She also sits on the Board of Camelot, Shaftesbury PLC, Yorkshire Building Society and is a Trustee at The Guide Dogs for The Blind.
